Effect of the compaction parameters on the final structure and properties of a press-coated tablet (Tab-in-Tab): Experimental and numerical study of the influence of core and shell dimensions

With increasing interest in chronopharmaceutics, press-coated tablets have become a key technology the field of modified release drug delivery systems. Although their benefits terms been largely studied, comprehension compaction process is yet to complete. Particularly, effects geometrical parameters like ratios between thickness/diameter core and whole tablet were so far not much considered. Moreover, there only few studies literature about effect press-coating compression on final structure properties core. The present work consists joint experimental numerical study that aims assess these points. revealed high stress concentrations during compression, causing permanent deformations core, especially when ratio thickness total was high. mechanical also shown be impacted: its density strength found decrease before again along coating-compression. This highlighted dependent triaxiality state (i.e. stresses different directions), itself depending two studied parameters. As affect attributes, dimensions (thickness, diameter) should taken into account as critical for manufacture tablets.
